Help me get a 5.O

Question:

This message isn’t directly Mustang related, but if I could get some answers to help me fix my ‘88 Escort, the money I get from that would help me get what I’ve got my eyes set on, an ‘89 5 OH. I appreciate most responces you may have–No, I cannot throw the thing over a cliff since I do want to sell it.

Are you serious?  Realistically, how much can you sell a piece-of-shit ‘88 Escort for?  What, $750 maybe, if the stupid thing RUNS?  Oh, please! Okay, no Cliff jokes.  How about C-4?  Find a good munitions expert to wire that sucker up, then sell tickets for the big event.  You’ll make more doing that, than selling that piece of crap to some sucker!  Blow the shit out of it, make everyone in the crowd happy, then use the money to buy a REAL car! ‘Kindly keep it Country’, -JD- Note: to reply via Email, remove -nospam- from our return address

If the starter wont stop cranking it is most likely the ignition switch not returning to the run position after it has been released or the starter relay is not releasing. You could test it with a meter or test light by removing the starter cable and turning the ignitio to crank position then releasing. If the power stays on then it is electrical ( as stated above).  But it maybe the starter drive is staying out  and causing the engine to turn it after it has started ( way to fast I might add!) Check the electrical first. Your car is no spring chicken and Ignition switchs are high wear items.  As for the cutting out my first bet is the ignition module,( It pays to listen to Dad sometimes) again the car is getting old and these parts are a known problem point  but you have to admit the underhood enviroment is not a real friendly place for electronics so they are pretty tough, try putting a walkman under there for 11 years see how it does! Anyways good luck hope you get your 5.0!  StuK – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – This message isn’t directly Mustang related, but if I could get some answers to help me fix my ‘88 Escort, the money I get from that would help me get what I’ve got my eyes set on, an ‘89 5 OH. I’ve got this problem with warm weather idling and could swear I heard something about a smog recall item for mid-late 80’s Fords.  My dad says that Ford ignition modules aren’t the greatest but I have a feeling it’s deeper than that.  The news I’d heard awhile back with the warm weather idle and car shutting off for no apparant reason was related to the engine chip (mine does shut-off on its own and it’s times like these when I’m glad I can stick the car in gear and dump the clutch with the car still rolling).  Another thing; the car doesn’t always start properly.  At times, the starter gear hangs in the "on" position so it takes a shift into first and a hold on the brake to stall the motor and kill the starter.  Any all-around Ford techs out there who could help me get these problems fixed?  I appreciate most responces you may have–No, I cannot throw the thing over a cliff since I do want to sell it. Frustrated 4-banger owner. Geoff
